Tanz5 takes place from September 7 to 12, 2026, across five venues, featuring new dance productions, work-in-progress performances, artist talks , and discussions exploring current issues in the independent dance scene.

In today's world, we hardly need to come together anymore. We communicate through chats and video calls, headphones shield us from the outside world, and with the advent of artificial intelligence, we no longer even need another person to have a conversation. But isn't something missing? Today we can talk, even spend time together, without the other person's body being present. Do we miss one another? How do we deal with the gaps created by a world that distances and disembodies us? What happens when the connection between people and their bodies begins to fade, and why does that connection matter so much?
Through a participatory performance combining interaction, conversation, and dance, we search for what no AI can replace: another human being.

Can we transform states of heaviness into movement?
Rock Bottom is a performance that explores the potential energy of weight, in our bodies and in our overflooded minds. Against a backdrop of stress, exhaustion and exploited natural resources, the work transforms weight as a rolling stone into a shared force.
Two performers travel through a space of weariness, diving deep into their heavy heads, rocking and swaying to their beat. As tectonic plates that are crashing and folding and drifting apart, they are rolling up a hill together. Moving between Hard Rock and deserted landscapes, weight becomes a motor for movement and a source of strength.
Rock Bottom invites the audience to a place where physical sensation and poetic imagery intertwine, allowing bodies, sound and heaviness to resonate through one another.

Aspirin explores through performance the structural, ongoing pressures that FLINTA* in particular face in a society shaped by efficiency, care work, and self-optimization.
The three dancers investigate how industrial labor becomes inscribed in the body. Using motion capture, these machine and bodily movements are recorded and, with the help of AI, rearranged into new choreographic sequences. The piece makes not only physical but also mental strain visible.

“Gatherings of Consolation” by Santiago Mariño presents the results of an initial research phase for a project that connects South American poetry by Piedad Bonnett and María Mercedes Carranza with embodied dance memories of the South American diaspora in Germany. The two art forms enrich one another: movement, voice, stage design, and interaction with the audience enter into dialogue. The audience is invited to sit, read, and move together in an exercise that builds a bridge between social and artistic forms of expression.
Hanna Launikovich’s “she-zoo/schizo/ШIЗА” explores what happens to the body when violence becomes imaginable. Drawing on accounts and experiences of Belarusian political prisoners, the piece asks: How does the female body survive when the space in which it is held captive denies it? How can experiences of captivity be translated into movement? A choreographic and sonic exploration of the bodies of those imprisoned and those who fear they themselves may become captive.
“Trickster-Rauschen” by Ida Daniel and Todor Stoyanov is a choreographic research project exploring what happens when a digital strategy designed to sabotage exploitative AI practices enters the space. Self-built sound machines, everyday expressions, and the voice become the material for a process concerned as much with listening and movement as with invisibility and resistance. A performance-lecture presenting the initial findings of an ongoing project.
