WORKSHOP "STROLLING THROUGH HESSEN’S (DANCE) SCENES"
Improvisation and Instant Composition

Strolling through Hessen’s (dance) scenes: A participatory dance project by Duo Branco & Piwonka. Six city centers in Hessen become a place of lively encounters between the city, artists, and audiences. In the workshop, we explore improvisation and instant composition together. This creates a shared movement toolbox for a dance happening performance by the duo the next day. One participant from each city is invited to perform with them.

The dance project invites professional dancers and aspirants to join their workshop in which they will share specific choreographic movement and compositional exercises within improvisation tools to be used during the performance.

From the workshop, it can be expected, blended dance materials that stems from diverse techniques that Branco and Piwonka have worked such as Klauss Vianna Technique; Brazilian Dances; Flying Low; Passing Through; Countertechnique. The workshop aims to gather material from the interaction with each participant; co-creating a “toolbox” that can be used for the performance in the format of a Dance Happening. All the movement material will be rooted into the intersection of dance and architecture.

The duo will invite one participant of the workshop to join them for the performance the next day (15.11.25 13:00 - 16:00). This performance will be a paid opportunity, hanks to our funding by Crespo Foundation.

Strolling through Hessen’s (dance) scenes by Duo Branco & Piwonka The dance project brings participatory Dance Happenings into the city centre of six cities in Hessen: Kassel, Korbach, Giessen, Fulda, Frankfurt a.M. and Wiesbaden. The event happens outdoors, dwelling with passers-by, and playfully lingering in each ordinary situation of the daily life of the city. Duo Branco and Piwonka, who are members of Tanzwerk*Kassel e.V., came up with the proposal through this project to connect with the dance network in each city. By bringing their work to the city, the duo aims to invite local artists, one dancer and photographer, to collaborate with them for the performance.

“Strolling through Hessen’s (dance) scenes” enables people who have never come into contact with dance as an art form to gain low-threshold access and opens up the urban space for creativity and exchange. Together with local artists, they create vibrant dance actions in public spaces – right on the streets, squares, and in parks. The performances emerge spontaneously, in direct dialogue with their surroundings. Watch, join in, walk along – everyone is welcome. Pause • get inspired • become part of the movement
