DEATH IN PEACE

DEATH IN PEACE is a video installation on four screens, narrated through Georgian polyphonic choir singing, choreography and opulent, multilayered video imagery. The Video Opera, directed by Ayla Pierrot Arendt, was created over the past two years through dialogue with Georgians, Russians in exile, Germans, and an Israeli. It formulates the questions of our time: What kind of peace and whose peace are we talking about? What conflicts arise from the personal perspectives of different nationalities? Is diplomacy more important than ever, or have its limits already been reached? The story follows five characters representing our national differences who become involved in a fictitious murder. A shot is fired during a reception at the German embassy in Tbilisi, Georgia. Who will take care of the corpse? Where can it find peace? Will the incident shake the fragile balance between East and West?
