In the double evening V/ertigo, the Hessian State Ballet presents extreme situations of an uncertain life. Between the desire to rise and the fear of falling, "Skid" exposes the dancers to the law of gravity: On a stage angled at 34 degrees, which plunges directly into the orchestra pit, the dancers draw physical lines of action between appearing and disappearing. Skid is the Hessisches Staatsballett's second collaboration with the exceptional Belgian choreographer Damien Jalet, following the choreography Thr(o)ugh, which was nominated for the 2017 "Der Faust" theatre prize. The Dutch siblings Imre and Marne van Opstal are shooting stars on the European dance scene. In close collaboration with the ensemble of the Hessisches Staatsballett and with the involvement of choirs, the two choreographers explore the moment of letting go as a transitional state in the surrender to loss in "I'm afraid to forget your smile". A moment so tangible and ephemeral at the same time that time seems to stand still.
