HUGS X CLOSER WITH CONSENT
Workshops Series
This workshop focuses on the field and potential of intimacy choreography in dance, closely linking it to the process of HUGS. Hannah Dewor, intimacy choreographer and project initiator of CLOSER WITH CONSENT, will introduce and offer concrete trauma-informed and consent-based tools and games to observe, reflect, and negotiate consent processes, slowly interweaving them with dance practice. Marion Plantey's trauma-sensitive movement approach can be experienced as an embodied meditation towards the end of the workshop.

To ensure comfort and clarity, each participant will receive a detailed description of what to
expect before attending. The workshops are led by Marion Plantey (HUGS) — a
choreographer and dancer specialising in trauma-sensitive practices — and Hannah Dewor
(Closer with Consent) — an intimacy choreographer who integrates intimacy coordination
principles into dance. They are joined by an assisting dancer dedicated to participant
well-being; offering support and providing individual assistance if needed. A designated
cool-down area will always be available if you wish to take a break.

The image features soft, bright pastel colors, creating a comforting and friendly atmosphere. In the center, Hannah Dewor is visible, smiling, wearing black glasses and a white sweater. Off-center to the left, Marion Plantey appears slightly blurred in a grey sweater, engaged in explaining something to two pastel-colored, blurred figures seen from behind. At the top of the image, the text reads HUGS X CLOSER WITH CONSENT. Below, in large pastel blue letters: WORKSHOP SERIES, and underneath in smaller text of the same color: 30th of August – 6th & 14th of September. The overall composition, with soft tones and smiling faces, conveys warmth, approachability, and a welcoming environment

We are offering three small-group workshops, each with a different focus, but all about building tools for safer spaces in the dance industry and beyond by reconnecting to touch in a careful, consent-based, and trauma-informed way.
Across the series, we explore simple movement exercises, physical approaches, and verbal and physical tools inspired by trauma-informed facilitation and intimacy coordination. We make embodied research accessible, so you can integrate the tools into your own practice. Throughout each workshop, the teaching team supports you in staying aware of your needs, setting boundaries, communicating them openly, and having access to a retreat space any time.
We will move together in the space, learning how to set and communicate boundaries, exploring touch through care without ever forcing it, and learning to listen to each other — and ourselves.

Why: Our aim is to change the working culture in dance and beyond by raising awareness for the need for consent-based and trauma-informed practices and interactions. This is why the HUGS project and CLOSER WITH CONSENT- Intimacy Choreography in Dance project collaborate and join forces in this small series of workshops.
The HUGS project is more than just a performance on consent, touch, and care. It's about building awareness, creating change, and inviting others into the process — sharing what we've learned, learning together, and developing resources for the future. These workshops are a way to connect, exchange, and grow as a community while placing consent at the heart of our practice.
CLOSER WITH CONSENT - Intimacy Choreography in Dance, a project by Hannah Dewor, advocates for the potential of intimacy choreography. It implements and develops consent-based, trauma-informed tools in dance practice, through research, workshops, exchange labs, and an online platform to share resources and to build communit
CLOSER WITH CONSENT is supported as part of Next Steps, a program by Bureau Ritter to strengthen dance professionals in Hessen. Funded by the Crespo Foundation. HUGS is funded by Kulturamt Frankfurt and Frauenreferat Frankfurt and supported by ID_Tanzhaus Frankfurt Rhein-Main, Goose EventSpace, and Tokonoma Club.
